An avid traveler since securing his drivers permit at age 14 (yes, really, that’s a South Dakota thing), Michael has been living in Europe since 2004: first in Germany to complete his degree in Computer Science, and now, since 2012, in Basque Country, Spain. He is currently studying to earn concurrent master’s in toddler psychology, diaper dynamics, and the fair market value of free time. Graduation expected in 2040.

Midwestern Europe

Midwestern Europe is a collection of short stories about life abroad published as a weekly column. Spanning nearly twenty years, these bite-sized anecdotes offer glimpses into everyday life in Europe.

The surprising cultural quirks, unintended social faux pas, and language barriers galore are constant fixtures when taking up residence in the old world. So let's take a look through! You'll pick up some new trivia along the way and get a chuckle or two out of it as well (usually at the author's expense).

Midwestern Europe: Volume 1 with the first 52 entries in this series is available now on Amazon US, Spain, and Germany in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle formats!

They were made with much love. Pick up a copy, you won’t be disappointed.
